Sabir Khan is an Indian sarangi player.[1] He belongs to Sikar gharana (school) of music who have given several stalwarts to Indian classical music.
Born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan[2] to sarangi player and vocalist Ustad Sultan Khan. He trained under his father and his uncle Ustad Nasir khan. He is the ninth generation to take up Sarangi. His great grand father Ustad Azim Khan sahab was a court musician at Sikar Rajasthan.[3]
Sabir Khan started was exposed to music when he was six year old through his grand father Ustad Gulab khan. He shares the stage with his father and apart from solo concerts.
Sabir khan is well known today for his delicate mastery of sarangi. His technique of playing is rare combination of sur and laya (note and rhythm).
Sabir khan performs with his father in concert and also solo. He has performed along side artists such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, pt.Kumar Bose,pt. Anindo Chatterjee. He has also played with artists like gazal maestro Ustad Gulam Ali, Talat Aziz, Asha bhosle and The Hazards at a terrace gig near Citi Centre and recently played in the album of great Lata Mangeshkar.
He played in several feature films like Chameli, Rog,Dor, Anwar, Sanwariya, Chodon na yaar, Jodha Akbar.
His cousin, Dilshad Khan, is also a popular Sarangi player.
